The 6 delegates of the Department of Political Science Jena will represent the REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA for the WorldMUN 2016 in Rome.

The country is a former colony of Germany (1885 until after WW I) and was administered by South Africa from 1920 until its independence on the 21st March 1990. Since then it has been governed by the socialist SWAPO PARTY OF NAMIBIA (South West African People’s Organisation). The current and third President of the Republic of Namibia is Hage Gottfried Geingob.

Namibia borders to Angola, Botswana, South Africa and Zambia. Its population exceeds 2.200.000 citizens and is multi ethnic. Approximately 50% of its population belongs to the Ovambo tribe. Its second largest group is the Kavangos tribe (~ 9%), followed by various other ethnic groups. Namibias religious shape is dominated by the Christian religion (ranging from 80-90% percent).

The Republic Of Namibia has been »the first country in the world to incorporate the protection of the environment into its constitution«.¹It stands at a rank of 127 on the Human Development Index 2014.² Namibia holds a membership in several internatonal organisations as (e.g.) the Group of 77 (G-77), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Our delegation members will represent the Republic Of Namibia in three different committees à two delegates:

1. Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC)
2. African Union (AU)
3. United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)

We are thankful for the opportunity to represent the Republic of Namibia and will therefore put a lot of effort into the proper realisation of our task!
