On February 18, 2015 the WorldMUN delegation of Jena travelled to Berlin to visit the Algerian embassy, the Korean arts centre as well as the Federal Foreign Office.

The trip focused on being able to ask open-ended questions about the various committees, we are going to represent in South Korea and other questions regarding Algeria and its neighbours.

After a short presentation about Algeria’s history, political reforms and its position in the African Union, we were able to see a new point of view with respect to Algeria, marked by personal insights on site. Over the following specific questions of the students, S.E. Nor-Eddine Aouam and his staff members were especially pleased, so that the visit of the Algerian Embassy was very helpful for the preparations for WorldMUN. Afterwards, we were cordially invited to a huge buffet composed of traditional finger food – characteristic for the country.

In the afternoon, the Delegation visited the Korean art centre – an outsourced part of the South Korean embassy. The Jena delegates got a good impression of the political and cultural life in South Korea. Although this visit was not directly related to the committee work in Seoul, it was important for the nine participants to be also prepared for the host country. The short introduction in the Korean language was very helpful; there is no doubt about it.

As a last stop of the Berlin excursion we had an appointment with Christopher Reichow, employee of the Foreign Office. Many questions on specific issues could be resolved or discussed. It was a great end of this amazing Berlin trip.

We would like to thank all those, who have allowed us to this day. Without this assistance, a specific preparation would not be possible.
